I just found this site, Musicovery.  It's similar to Pandora, but you can choose the genre, decade, mood, hit or non hit. I'm in love with it!

The strike is over!

Tonight I watched the Pushing Daisies pilot. One word: delight!
Visually amazing, it creates a fantasy world, with great use of narration and witty dialog. The acting is perfect. And it has a Burtonesque touch.

Amália Rodrigues died 8 years ago.

She was known as the "Rainha do Fado" ("Queen of Fado") and was most influential in popularizing the fado worldwide. She was unquestionably the most important figure in the genre’s development, by virtue of an innate interpretive talent carefully nurtured throughout a 40-year recording and stage career. Rodrigues' performances and choice of repertoire pushed Fado’s boundaries and helped redefine it and reconfigure it for her and subsequent generations. In effect, Rodrigues wrote the rulebook on what fado could be and on how a female singer—or Fadista—should perform it, to the extent that she remains an unsurpassable model and an unending source of repertoire for all those who came afterwards.

5th October 1910 - Portugal overthrows its monarchy and declares itself a republic.

And since then...

In 1910, a revolution deposed the Portuguese monarchy, but chaos continued and considerable economic problems were aggravated by the military intervention in the First World War, which led to a military coup d'état in 1926. This in turn led to the establishment of a right-wing dictatorship by António de Oliveira Salazar.

This is the problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, and we know nothing about each other. I'm going to rectify it. I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me - something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.

Superstars
is David Fonseca's new single. The video was directed by him, and I love it: disconnected and random, just like dreams are. David's one of my favorite artists; his music is sad and introspective, but also loud and agitated. It's a shame he isn't known outside Portugal. Everyone should check him out:
